Since the inception of Submissive Guide and its growth as a notable advice and self-help website, I have had many ideas of how to bring Submissive Guide's purpose to more people. My newsletter, short ebooks and the ecourses that I've started are part of this spread of information.  I've honestly never considered myself much of a writer. Definitely not an author.

But just this month I was approached by a well-known fetish book publisher to submit a book proposal because my website interested them. I'd be lying if I had never considered a book before, but I am just not sure what kind of book I could put out there that would be unique and interesting to the BDSM community. I have a great talent for putting together short articles that seem to help novices but can I really do a book?

I'm still hanging on to the book proposal plan. I don't know what I want to do just yet. I've had ideas swimming in my brain for so long but just not sure how to best use them. The books I review for Submissive Guide all have things in common and yet are so different. Some of my favorites are personal experiences and revelations of submission like Conquer Me and Different Loving. And still there is a wealth of information for beginners out there like SM101, Screw The Roses, Send Me The Thorns. What could I possibly contribute in this medium that doesn't already exist?

And it hit me. I have an idea for a book that I've not seen and think that it could be quite useful. I'm not going to share with you what it is exactly until I could possibly get accepted. You see, a book proposal does not mean I'll be accepted by a publisher. It's like a resume and cover letter. I'm hoping to be given the chance to work with them.

What I can say is that this book idea would be much along the lines of this website. It would provide self-help and insight into submission that a novice or experienced submission could pick up and use over and over again. If it gets picked up by a publisher then I know I'd have something valuable to share.

Not that what I'm writing now isn't valuable; but let's face it. The Internet is an instant medium. One day this site could just vanish into the ether; never to return. A book, on the other hand, is a substantial way to declare that my thoughts have merit. Now I know that not everyone agrees with what I have to say or how I say it. It's just a fact of life. I'm not asking for you to support me in my endeavors, but if you choose to I wouldn't shy away from it.

If any of you have written a book, I'd love to talk to you about the process. I am constantly stressing that it's a hard process and I'm going to have to devote some serious time to improving my current writing.

Thoughts to Ponder

  • Would you like to see a Submissive Guide book?
  • Are books dead? Should I concentrate on electronic media?
  • What topics are over talked about in BDSM books? Not talked about enough?
