Diffuse Extreme Mood Swings Before They Get You In Trouble
For March Question Month Cilla Noir asks:
How do you handle your serious mood swings or when something just “sets you off”?
When you go from one end of the spectrum to another – sometimes justified, sometimes not.
Normally, when i was on my own, i would just throw a fit.
Being back in a D/s relationship – that is not acceptable behavior and it’s a hard thing to start overcoming.
I admit to sometimes being a drama queen in relation to my moodswing – not something i’m proud of – and being back into a D/s relationship i need to nip that in the bud ASAP.
Suggestions?
Advice?
Dealing with extreme mood swings is a challenge. It’s not uncommon for people to let their emotions take control of their behavior but for the submissive constantly endeavoring to improve themselves this is not an option. Learning to diffuse your emotions is, in my opinion, a very important tool to have.
Like any stressful situation, a mood swing can be released in the same way. Follow the next few steps when you feel that your emotions are getting the better of you.
1. Breathe. When your emotions take control of your body you experience physical changes that help increase your reaction to the situation. Your pulse quickens, your temperature may go up and you take more shallow quick breaths. Stop for a moment and focus on your breathing. Feel you body relax and return to normal before moving on to the next step.
2. Take a time out. The reason you are upset will still be there so try to step away and calm yourself before thinking about what just set you off.
3. If you can’t take a time out, count to ten. It seems childish at first, but once you realize the effects it has on your body and mind you won’t take it for granted.
4. Write about it. Open up a journal and write about what has upset you. It doesn’t have to make sense. Feel free to ramble, scribble and vent. No one will see this anyhow, it’s just there to diffuse your dramatic behavior that would normally occur.
5. Investigate why you may be having such extreme mood swings. Some things that can cause mood swings are high levels of simple carbohydrates in your diet. Cut down on the white bread, processed foods and sugar. Exercise helps reduce stress which means you’d have a lower chance of flying off the handle. Sleep deprivation also increases your chances for mood swings.

With the Stroke of a Cane: Enjoying Caning
January 13, 2010 by Guest Author
This is a guest post by Nadia West for the BDSM activities series.
I’m fairly new to caning, but I’ve discovered that I like it a lot (even if I can’t take as much as some people can). I was afraid of canes for a long time because I had heard they’re rough pain-wise. While I like pain I’m not truly a pain slut. And it’s true, they are rough – the impact is concentrated along one thin area. But I find that a caning puts me into subspace wonderfully, perhaps better than any other implement.
I don’t have experience with different types of canes. MasterDoc’s (my Dom) are rattan with handmade handles. Rattan is pretty standard cane material. It doesn’t look like the rattan cane with the crook is fundamentally different than a straight rattan cane. I got to watch a sub get beaten with a carbon fiber cane recently – seems harsher than the more flexible rattan. I’ve also read that carbon fiber canes conduct electricity, and therefore can be used creatively with a Violet Wand. Canes come in other materials, including acrylic and aluminum. The less flexible a cane is, the more pain it’s going to produce.
My Dom has always warmed me up first with his hand, and/or a paddle. He gets my ass nice and rosy and my pain tolerance starts to improve with warm up. Then he picks out the thinnest cane we have (we’re working our way up to the thickest of the three someday) and starts with some taps. Light taps aren’t too painful, but the real attraction of the cane is a sharp hit. Angry red stripes left on your ass is definitely a desirable, and kinkily attractive, result. With a sharp hit the pain surges and I have to focus my breathing. I slowly breathe in and out so I can manage the pain. Sometimes my Dom strokes my legs until my tense muscles start to relax. Then he resumes with the cane. It’s quite painful, but unlike paddling it’s a short, sharp pain. Paddling usually goes on with the paddle hitting the same area repeatedly, and that gives me a longer lasting pain. While the cane strokes have to be measured and I need more breaks to process the pain, it feels exhilarating to take it.
It’s intense dealing with the sharp pain, but this makes me feel even more proud about taking it than pain from other implements. I probably cry out more, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. (I’m sure sadists just love those little cries of pain.) The intensity leads me into subspace fairly quickly. As I enter subspace, I find that strokes of the cane that would ordinarily hurt are somehow manageable. I feel proud of myself for immediately converting the pain into pleasure. Some strikes do hurt though, and it’s not like the caning will ever be negligibly stimulating. I get to float between, “Wow, that should hurt but it really doesn’t feel like much,” to “Holy shit that hurt! I’m holding my breath involuntarily now; I need to take deep breaths.”
At the end of a caning, I’m really wet and in a total subspace buzz. With just a little sexual teasing at that point I’d probably gladly do anything whatsoever that my dominant asked of me (even things that I usually have a hard time with, like piss play). I look forward to working my way up to more intense canes, and I’m glad that I didn’t let my fear keep me from trying them out.
Nadia West blogs about her adventures with her Dom over at Diary of Kinky Librarian (www.diaryofakinkylibrarian.com). While she’s been a kinkster for years, she’s only been in a D/s relationship for two and a half years. Other favorite pastimes include (receiving) wax play, orgasm control, flogging and giving blow jobs. She also twitters at www.twitter.com/nadiawest.

Review: The Surrendered Wife
This month I dived into a book full of controversy with its approach to living intimately with your husband (or partner). I read The Surrendered Wife by Laura Doyle. I didn’t read it to find the reason for the argument between feminists and the author of the book’s ideas. I read it to see what a submissive could gain from its pages.
In this quest I found a part of me that was glaringly obvious as a poor trait in submissives in general and one that I’d have to let go of it I wanted to try anything that was suggested in the best-selling self help book for women seeking intimacy and peace with a man. Master says that I started acting weird when I was reading the book so either he was sensing my shift or I just wasn’t doing it right. Most likely because I was trying to overthink the suggestions in the book.
This book is written, of course, with husband and wife being key, but I think it would work for any gender mix as long as there is a relationship established and the person reading it is ready to make changes. Reading some of the mixed reviews I can see that a majority of the reviews I read feel that the book solidifies women into very feminine and vulnerable roles that the feminist movement was trying to break the molds of. Unlike other books emphasizing the 1950’s traditions of a man centered household, this book defines the genders and not the tasks they are ’supposed’ to be performing.
In context to submission, I think that this would be a good starter book for anyone who is coming out of a vanilla relationship or preparing to enter a D/s one when they haven’t been in one before. The Surrendered Wife will help you recognize and correct habits that may have been comfortable in your previous relationships but won’t work for a D/s style one.
The book is great in it’s ability to recognize inappropriate control situations and the ideas of how to release that control are spot on. The steps to surrendering that she explains are being respectful, receiving graciously, relinquishing control, being open for sex, expressing gratitude and practicing good self-care. I especially like how she recommends we say, “ouch’ when your partner says something to hurt you instead of taking the bait and biting them back.
Not all of the suggestions would work towards a D/s relationship, but as with everything you read it’s best to take what you can and leave the rest. A book can only be as good as what you get out of it, so for that reason I’d have to give it a relatively low rating in comparison to D/s oriented books as far as helpfulness is concerned.
However, if you are like me, and had a vanilla relationship (in my case a 5 year marriage) it might help to reaffirm your femininity and find that surrendered self that very well could be the key to opening your heart to the submission you wish to give to someone else.

The Roundtable: Money Handling

Gather around the table everyone, I’d like to learn about something I don’t know a lot about. I welcome you to add your thoughts and comments to this post and if you feel an inclination, send me a guest post letting me know what you think.
This month I’d like to talk about money. Here’s the questions I have:
- Who does the budgeting in your relationship?
- Do you hand over your paycheck?
- Are there bank accounts with your name on them?
- Are you allowed to handle money?
- How are gift purchases handled if you aren’t allowed personal money?
- If you have no money control, what back up is in place if the relationship were to go south?
Anything else?
Chat Night Transcript for Speaking Submissively
December 8, 2009 by lunaKM
This chat was held on December 2nd, 2009.
~lunaKM> So tonight I wanted to talk about speech and how the way we communicate can impact our submission.
Nia> tonight’s topic really struck a chord with me
angel> same here
~lunaKM> I’ve been doing a bit of non-scientific research of my own when I am out and about and am appalled at the way we talk to each other anymore.
~lunaKM> It’s like the care and respect for strangers no longer exists.
~lunaKM> But furthermore, how we talk to our family has also gone downhill.
~lunaKM> We can take our submissive nature (whether learned or natural) and use it to bring back grace and charm to conversation.
~lunaKM> You can feel free to chime in any time thoughts pop into your head, this is an open discussion.
angel> :)
angel> i didn’t want to interrupt
Nia> ty, luna
angel> i agree with you. i’ve notice how even friends in public speak to one another…
~lunaKM> I’d like to touch on gossiping, vulgarities, person bashing and docile speech with your partner
Nia> i concur…observing my and other’s speech at work shames me
angel> my Sir always tells me that you can speak about anything, but it’s how it’s presented that makes the difference
~lunaKM> Exactly and we can cover that first since you brought it up.
~lunaKM> What’s the difference between these to requests:
~lunaKM> a. I’m going to the store Sir.
~lunaKM> b. May I go to the store Sir?
angel> b is a request. a is telling/more aggressive
Nia> i see (a) as information and (b) as a request for permission
~lunaKM> You are both correct.
Nia> i think (a) would be appropriate only as a response to a question from my Mama as to where I am going?
~lunaKM> a was the more aggressive way to voice your need to go to the store.
angel> yes…i also like Nia’s (a) too :)
~lunaKM> :)
angel> i’ll have to admit, though, sometimes it’s hard
~lunaKM> With just a slight change we can turn our requests into questions or suggestions. Words that still give your Dominant the upper hand.
Nia> yes, i agree
~lunaKM> It’s totally hard, I struggle with it all the time.
angel> oh, good. it’s not just me
Nia> i have been away from my Mama for a year…we just got back together a few weeks ago and the transition is harder than i thought
angel> i’m in the same boat with you Nia. my relationship is long distance and i fall out of it at times
angel> the speech, i mean
~lunaKM> Ok, how about these two phrases…(I’m making them up as I go)
~lunaKM> a. The house needs to be repainted.
~lunaKM> b. I’m going to paint the house.
Nia> (a) is definitely more passive in tone
angel> (a) gives the Dominant a chance to respond either yes or no. (b) takes that way
Nia> however, (b) does mean that i am taking responsibility for this chore
~lunaKM> A allows a dialog to be opened up and the Dominant to make decisions.
~lunaKM> If it is your responsiblity to maintain the outside of the house, sure it might be okay, but a cost incurred for doing so may not be.
Nia> (b) does take the risk of offending your Domme
~lunaKM> It sure does
angel> i agree
~lunaKM> Speaking passively is a safer route to take when talking directly to your Dominant.
~lunaKM> Of course it’s something that comes naturally.
Nia> do you feel that it would be the same at home as in public?
~lunaKM> Nia, do you mean in conversations with your Dominant or with everyone?
Nia> with everyone, my Mama and i work together
~lunaKM> There are always occasions where passive speech just will not work
~lunaKM> Times where authority or responsibility is necessary to claim in order to make your point. But in a relationship where your submission is on display, it’s better to be subordinant in speech as well as deed.
~lunaKM> And of course this won’t work for everyone in every relationship.
angel> i think it’s the Dominant who sets the tone as well. sometimes He/She will allow you to take more verbal control of a situation. but i agree in a D/s setting it’s safer to be softer in speech
~lunaKM> My Master hates it when I say, “Whatever you’d like” (being passive) He wants to know my opinion before making decisions and giving him no options frustrates the living daylights out of him.
Nia> i am a switch and also have a sub boi, so i have to change up several times a day
angel> that’s interesting Nia. is your boi with you while you are with your Domme?
Nia> “whatever you like” drives me crazy too, i try to make suggestions, but leave it up to my Mama to set my priorities each day
Nia> so i want to learn how to keep things transparent with my speech, to emphasize my status with each of them in a non-violent manner
angel> i imagine that it is tough to switch verbal gears in that situation. i find it hard to do coming from work :) i try to stop and think of who i am speaking to (my Sir) before responding.
~lunaKM> So you could get really good with switching from passive to active speech. Set it up to an artform!
Nia> and i have 2 teenage daughters who are finding themselves…menopause on top of all of that! whew!
~lunaKM> lol, quite a handful
angel> lol..tough all the way around
~lunaKM> So, how about we move in to gossiping
~lunaKM> What do you feel about gossip?
angel> it’s a fine line between gossiping and sharing
Nia> it’s funny that when my co-workers are gossiping and i’m not, they seem to feel threatened…that i think i’m better than them by refusing to join the conversation
~lunaKM> I think a lot of gossiping is unrequested information about someone else. I used to be a huge gossip girl.
Nia> but i feel that gossip is usually more about the person who is gossiping
~lunaKM> I’d term that as bragging Nia
angel> how did you stop yourself from gossiping, luna?
Nia> not really, i don’t think that i am better than them…they just think that
Nia> yes, how did you stop, luna?
~lunaKM> Well, It wasn’t easy really. I decided that if the information wasn’t about me, that I had no right to share it.
angel> didn’t you feel like you would explode?
angel> :)
~lunaKM> So no matter how badly I wanted to talk about what happened at the party, etc, if it wasn’t me then it wasn’t my story.
Nia> true that
~lunaKM> At first I did feel that way; then I realized that I was not showing myself in a good light if I could simply talk about everyone else without a care for their thoughts.
angel> hmmm…makes perfect sense.
~lunaKM> I now get so many people wanting to share themselves with me because they know I will guard their trust
Nia> how do you keep from getting drawn into the gossip of others?
~lunaKM> And that really is more important.
~lunaKM> Well, I tend to shut gossip down pretty fast. I just tell them that I won’t talk about people that aren’t part of the conversation since we could be getting the facts wrong.
Nia> excellent point and idea
angel> yes, that is a good statement to use-it’s not harsh but puts a spin on it that others may not get the facts right either
~lunaKM> I’ve had to counter that once when someone kept going and asked them why they felt the need to talk about something that could hurt someone else’s reputation/feelings.
~lunaKM> I’ve wanted to say, ‘Is your life really that boring that we have to talk about other people?’
Nia> there are always 2 sides to every story…sometimes more
~lunaKM smirks
Nia> bravo
angel> :)
~lunaKM> I mean gossip is meant to puff up the person gossiping and tear down the person they are talking about, is it not?
Nia> there is so much that i can share about myself and listening to others sharing about themselves…why bring 3rd parties into it?
~lunaKM> So why do they need that inflated ego?
angel> good points
Nia> cursing, or as you called it “vulgarities”, is a character defect i am really struggling with now
Nia> any advice?
~lunaKM> Well, don’t laugh but I make up words instead of using curse words.
~lunaKM> So Jesus Christ has always been jimminey cricket
angel> i have to admit, the only time i do curse is during “relations”. i guess that’s not good either
angel> lol..cute luna
~lunaKM> lol, I can curse all I want during play/sex… it’s a turn on for both of us
Nia> lol…sorry i had to laugh :)
~lunaKM> That’s okay, sometimes Master repeats the word and I realize just how silly it sounds, but it keeps me from getting in trouble for cursing
Nia> for me it more about controlling my speech when i am angry/frustrated…the words just jump out before i can edit them
~lunaKM> Ah well that’s just as hard.
~lunaKM> The only thing for that is tempering…. mental counting before expressing your anger or frustration.
~lunaKM> It’s not something I’m good at yet (thus the fake curse words)
Nia> my Mama just gives a look, and i feel so ashamed
angel> good advice. taking a deep breath. think jimminey cricket
~lunaKM> lol
Nia> hehe
~lunaKM> the one that Master hates is when he says Son of a.. and I finish it with beehive!
angel> LOL
Nia> my youngest daughter charges me a quarter, fifty cents on sundays…i think i’ve paid for her college tuition this year
~lunaKM> that’s a good incentive if it makes a difference, although if you’ve paid tuition then it must not be so good.
angel> lol…money usually works. at least it benefits someone
Nia> well, i yell a lot during football games
Nia> but seriously, i realize how verbally abusive i can be, and want to change
~lunaKM> This is something that you can work on with your Dominant if you ask for help.
angel> maybe if you picture the look from your Mama before you say it, it will help you to cut down on it.
~lunaKM> Of course it’s going to be hard, but if you want to change and it’s a positive thing I don’t see why she wouldn’t help.
Nia> wow, i’ve never even asked for her help….thanks for the suggestions angel & luna
angel> :)
~lunaKM smiles. Sometimes it take someone else to point out the obvious.
~lunaKM> Are we ready for the last point I want to cover tonight?
angel> sure
Nia> yes
~lunaKM> I’ve seen this a lot on online forums and communities
~lunaKM> person/dominant bashing
Nia> ah, i’ve seen this a lot too
~lunaKM> In generalities it’s when someone says that someone isn’t a good Dominant based on one sided conversation, or that you aren’t a true submissive because of x, y and z. Essentially bashing teh person without all the facts.
~lunaKM> In an online community it is almost impossible to know exactly what is going on with someone when they write just as soon as they experience hurt or anger or fear. That isn’t the time to write, but so many do and it starts damaging the reputation of someone else.
angel> i’ve seen that a lot too
Nia> i understand the need to vent, but damaging the reputation of your Dominant isn’t going to help anything
~lunaKM> I tend to steer clear of these sorts of threads except to say that we don’t know the other person’s side or to recommend that the person reflect on the issue after the intense feelings have faded and they may see it in another light.
angel> good point, Nia. sometimes you do need to vent and for some, the online community is all they have. but, maybe it should be with a online friend and not a thread
angel> i wish everyone responded that way, luna :)
Nia> yes, being discrete should come first
Nia> or i wish that they could relate just their side without all of the damaging details (Dominant’s name, etc.)
~lunaKM> I agree
Nia> a saying in recovery programs is “if i am not the problem, there is no solution”
~lunaKM> I think that in those situations they aren’t seeing what THEY did wrong, only what is bothering them from the other person.
angel> exactly
~lunaKM> heh, that’s just about what I said
Nia> yeah, all i read in those posts is an invitation to a pity party
~lunaKM> no kidding and I never accept those invites.
angel> same here
~lunaKM> They are usually closed off to advice that doesn’t support their anger or frustration either.
angel> never thought of it that way, but that’s true

- Is orgasm control part of chastity?
- How do you feel in chastity?
- Is it easier for men or for women to be in chastity? (The physical devices or the activity, your choice)

One month into my first real time D/S relationship: A Training Review
November 16, 2009 by Guest Author
This is a Guest Post by A. She is a new submissive in her first 24/7 dynamic. I received this wonderfully written review of her first 30 days and she offered to share it with everyone here. Enjoy!
It has come to my attention after reading submissiveguide.com that my training with Sir has already begun, though not outright labeled as such. Indeed, every relationship I have ever had has begun in this way, learning the likes and dislikes of my partner and trying to accommodate, but with Him, I am more aware of this process, as it is more deliberate. At the outset, on the day of our first meeting, he instructed me to wear a black dress, and sit in the park reading and await Him. I am validated to read in Luna’s writing that my concern over my appearance, and also trying to be peaceful, not fidget and patient was already a positive in the direction of desired qualities in a submissive. Since that day, we have grown together in many ways, and the ways in which I have learned to please Him are outlined below. I plan to update this list periodically, to track the ways in which I deepen my submission, the ways in which my wants and needs evolve and dovetail with His.
Speech:
Sir:
Use of the word Sir was discussed online, before we had even initially met. He indicated I could call Him whatever I wished, but desired Sir for intimate moments. As we grew closer, it applied whenever He was asserting His dominance, be it out in public, online or on the phone and I show my acceptance and submission with the honorific response.
Thank you:
At various times I have been corrected for not thanking Him for the orgasm He allowed me to have. I have begun to thank Him for blows He gives me in certain contexts, He has not commented either way on this, or corrected when I do not.
Wording:
When I removed His shoes, I asked if He would like to keep His socks or not. This is something I am still trying to work on, my natural way of speaking is to ask “can I?” but I am well aware “may I” is more appropriate. Sir does not comment on this, but I feel it is more respectful, and I’m frustrated with myself at each error.
Enunciation:
Another flaw of mine is that in the course of being together, when I am excited, I often forget the appropriate response of “yes Sir, no Sir” and may make a moaning sort of affirmation or denial. His tone changes immediately as he demands the proper response and I know I run the risk of displeasing Him should I not enunciate properly.
Positions:
Spanking:
Sir is particular about positions and protocol. When I am to be spanked, I am to kneel and bend over with my face flat, shoulders to the bed, and present myself. He prefers my back to be straight, which is difficult for me, as my natural tendency is to reverse arch my back. As I am punished, I am most often allowed to cry out, but not to move. If I flinch, I am to return to the instructed position immediately without hesitation. If I am to stand and be punished, I must brace myself stiff armed on a designated piece of furniture, slightly bent, head down.
Undressing:
I am just now beginning to learn how to undress for Sir. I feel a bit silly, but the lingerie I wear for Him helps. So far He has only specified me to remove my panties while facing away from Him, slightly bent over. Beyond that He has only asked that I please Him with my removal of my clothes, and I try to be creative and pleasing in the process.
Waiting to Serve Sexually:
When Sir decides He wishes to use me I am ordered to get on the bed, on my back, legs spread open and knees up, so He can gaze at me exposed while He readies Himself to enter me. Often I will casually hold this position, while writhing a bit, gazing at Him to allow Him to feel my passion and desire, and my hunger. Occasionally He will correct me and tell me to be still, but generally He enjoys my arousal and encourages me to exhibit these feelings.
From the Rear:
As one of Sir’s favorite ways to have me, positioning for rear entry is very important. He prefers a similar position to that of spanking, with more of a reverse lean so as to better accommodate His thrusts.
Rituals and Behavior:
Morning Check In:
Each day when I get up, I am to write to Him, tell Him my plans for the day, and say hello. Sometimes He responds with additional commands, which may include meditating on a certain subject, writing, masturbation or explicit instructions to abstain from that. Other times He responds with a brief “good morning my sweet girl.” Other times He does not respond at all. The initial contact on my part is the focus, and allows me to show that in waking up to start my day, He is in my first thoughts.
Shoes:
My first actual training occurred when we reached my home our first day together. Sir sat on my couch, and took one of the pillows, placing it at His feet, He instructed me to kneel and remove His shoes. He informed me at that time that His women do not kneel on the floor, only on pillows, and so I learned my first lesson. Now, unless we are in a rush, I kneel at His feet and put on and remove His shoes.
Worship:
In removing or putting on of shoes, I always kiss the tops of His feet. Once the shoes are off or on respectively, from my kneeling position I wrap my arms around His calves, and press my head down softly on His lap. He then bends at the waist, and embraces me and we hold that moment. In this way, I show my devotion and love, and He shows His acceptance and reciprocation.
Sir also requires certain ways of being touched, especially after intercourse. He prefers His chest to be stroked and will directly request it.
Massage:
Due to injury, regular massage is very beneficial to Him, so often I do massage His muscles for Him, both solicited and unsolicited. As I do these things for Him, I try to focus on the feelings I have for Him, all I appreciate that He does for me, and allow that warmth and tenderness to radiate through my hands. This is to me, one of the highest forms of worship and a deep communion between us.
Fetching:
I have the natural desire, when fetching something for Him, to kneel and present the item with both hands upon my return. Sir has expressed appreciation for this, and thus I adopt it.
Toys:
Sir introduces all toys and equipment by either presenting it to me or instructing me to fetch it for Him. He then presents it to my lips and I kiss it, typically a flogger, rope or a slapper, though a blindfold or other bondage instruments, hair brush, etc, are managed similarly.
When Sir is finished with the toy, or when I am cleaning up the room afterward, I am to take the toy to the closet where it is kept, and hang it very deliberately in its designated spot. I stop the swaying with my hands, then bend at the waist to kiss the item, as He watches. He then closes the closet door.
Presentation:
Sir prefers that the condom box be displayed in my room, with one always set on top, ready and anticipating His need.
Orgasm Control:
Sir has decreed that I may not orgasm without His permission. As I feel it build, I am to ask, and if He says no, resist it. This has been my sole punishable infraction to date, as the way in which He was having me made it next to impossible to resist, and in complete honesty, I wanted to see what would happen. Since that time though, with punishment looming over my head, I improved a great deal, and even redeemed myself, forgiven and excused from the punishment. Sir has been pleased to the point where He has moved on to orgasm on command.
Orgasm on Command:
Sir employs both the counting method and basic instruction for orgasm on command training and only during sex, which makes it easier for me. He wishes to lessen my response time however. I myself would like to be trained by Sir to orgasm independent of sexual stimulation; i.e. a simple word can trigger that response but that is at His discretion.
Clothing:
Usually He does not request specific items of clothing to be worn, but generally I ask when planning to see Him, what He would like for me to wear. As we are still in the beginnings of our relationship, He is not 100% familiar with my wardrobe, but I do my best to accommodate His requests.
Personal Grooming:
Sir often does request specific hair styles of me, and I do my best to please Him in this way. Also, He prefers me to have pubic hair, which I have always removed. Growing out and getting used to this hair has been challenging for me, but His pleasure in knowing it is difficult but seeing that I obey nonetheless makes it a rewarding task.

Submissive and Slave: A Personal View

This post was written by Rayne. You can follow her twitter for active and interesting conversation.
I’m pretty big on book definitions. So for me, the word “submissive” has always been an adjective describing a personality trait. When I got involved in BDSM, it became, for me, a heading, of sorts, describing a group of people.
Under the heading of submissive, there are three main labels I – and others – use to describe the bottom half of the totem pole in BDSM relationships. Generally speaking, each label delineates a level of submission. How much control the person has given to their dominant. Because there is no set standard (How could there be?) of how much or how little submission one must give to be considered submissive, we instead give the different levels of submission names to aid in communication. A way of getting an idea of how much or how little control the submissive is willing to give up without having to get to know them.
In the grand scheme of things, one is not better than the other, except for the person in question. They’re just different.
Generally speaking, we call someone who is only submissive in the bedroom or at play parties and such a bottom. They are not interested in giving up total control. They enjoy being dominated sexually – or sometimes just being bound and hurt without involving sex at all – but really have no interest in being controlled on a regular basis. This group of submissive people leaves their submission at the door of their play space.
A lot of people start out here. Being the bottom of a scene is often a gateway. A place where people discover deeper, more submissive desires. I was a bottom before I was a sub and sub before slave. A lot of submissive people I know followed that progression. Not everyone, though.
People occasionally shorten “submissive” when specifically discussing this next group to avoid confusion. It’s a running joke, in the community, that a “sub” is a sandwich, and you’ll occasionally hear people talking about wanting roast beef and provolone on theirs. But since the first day M dragged me onto IRC, using “sub” has been my way of making it clear I am talking about this particular level of submission and not submissive people as a whole.
So what’s a sub? That’s where it gets tricky. Because the line between sub and slave is rather fine and blurs a lot. People often use “submissive” and “slave” interchangeably. But they are not the same thing.
A sub is someone who still retains some control, but is in service to someone else. They have the right to say no and walk away at any time. They have a safe word. They have limits. They’re not owned.
An article I read recently described it best when it said “A submissive is a volunteer. A slave is not.”
A slave is owned. That’s probably the only constant. Some slaves have safe words. Some do not. Some slaves have negotiated limits. Some do not. Some slaves have submissive personalities. Some are only submissive with the one who owns them. Some slaves have given up their right to leave, or consented to having it taken from them. Some retain the right to walk out the door whenever they choose.
Legally, we all have that right. Some of us just choose not to acknowledge it.
In my perfect world, a slave is someone without limits or safe words. A slave is someone who opens himself or herself completely to his or her owner. Complete transparency. Total power exchange. He or she doesn’t have a choice.
But in my reality, it’s illegal to own another human being. Some states don’t recognize consent. In the interest of keeping the owner out of prison, the submissive is allowed to negotiate the rules. Even I can’t or don’t always live up to my perfect world. So it doesn’t surprise me that others don’t, can’t or aren’t interested.
Some say the difference between a submissive and a slave has nothing whatever to do with how much control one gives up or how submissive one is. That it’s in one’s actions. In the way the slave obeys without question or hesitation. In the respect in the slave’s voice when he or she speaks with his or her owner. In the way the slave knows what the owner needs almost before the owner does. But I’ve known some submissives to show their dominants more respect than some slaves show their owners.
A submissive is someone who submits willingly, sometimes on a case by case basis, to the will of another. A slave is someone who is wholly controlled and owned by another. That’s really the sum of it.
Rayne is a loving slave with sadistic tendencies and masochistic desires. Chaos incarnate. The girl your mother warned you about. How To Help Your Dominant Recover From Play
When aftercare is mentioned, it is rarely associated with the Dominant. We hear all about how to help the submissive come down from the endorphin high, treat the marks and aches and emotionally recover from the scene. Do we think that Dominants feel nothing during play that they don’t need care afterwards? Think again.
When we play, it is for enjoyment and pleasure for both people. No matter what the play session involved the Dominant will not leave the scene feeling exactly the same as when they went in. They could have an energy high, a control rush, aches and pains, sexual frustration or fatigue. The submissive has a responsibility to take care of the Dominant just as much as the submissive needs care.
It is very important to make sure that the Dominant recovers from the session in whatever way that is best for them. We know what usually helps a submissive recover; a fuzzy blanket, attention, sleep, care for wounds, etc. But what about a Dominant? What do they need?
Out of my own experience a Dominant sometimes needs much the same thing. A back, shoulder or arm rub would not be turned down after a heavy impact scene. The rush of endorphins is going through them as well. Getting them a cool drink and having them relax will help slow their thoughts and bring them back down from the high they experience.
If sex is part of the relationship and you did not have sex during scene it might be nice to end the scene with sexual attention. I particularly like to end the scene with giving a blow job. Master prefers sex.
It’s also important to not be greedy with your aftercare needs. Some of what you may need could be done on your own at another time so while you are with your partner, focus on helping each other selflessly. Curl up together under a blanket and rest. Give each other body rubs. Take a shower together.
If your immediate need after play is sleep, then remember to care for them after you wake from your nap. Trust me, keeping that connection will strengthen the enjoyment after the scene if you can take the responsibility of caring for everything from your Dominant and shoulder some of it yourself.
Aftercare is a joint activity. Just like the exchange in pleasure and pain during play you should be prepared to care for each other’s needs after as well.
What does your Dominant need after play? Let me know in the comments.

Using Contracts to Negotiate a Relationship
November 6, 2009 by lunaKM
Filed under Relationships, Rituals and Routines
When you get married, you have to legally sign a document attesting to your decision to be married. The legal document can come in many forms but most have a brief section about what each party declares for the union, how they will treat each other and how commitment will be displayed (change of names usually). In a D/s relationship it is not unfamiliar to also draft a contract in which to declare your intentions with each other. These are not required, of course, and some people will proclaim the invalidity of these documents to anyone who will listen.
I feel that the creation of a contract has some very useful and valuable importance to a growing relationship.
What are D/s contracts?
A contract is a document written up by one or both parties entering a relationship. This contract specifies the responsibilities of the people involved. It is not a standard operating procedures document and should not list all of the rules you are to be given. The important new behaviors can be listed, such as how each person should be addressed and basic behavior required of each. Keep your rules and protocol or procedures to a separate, easily changed document.
A contract has a set start and ending date. This can be a short term agreement such as for a weekend or it can be a renewable contract on an agreed upon date or annually. D/s contracts can also be permanent in nature, but for the purpose of this essay I will be covering renewable contracts.
Can we put anything we want in them?
As I stated earlier, the contract is not for every small measure of control in the relationship. It is a declaration of the commitment you both wish to have and basic means for expressing certain term changes, violations in the contract and means for dismissal. If you feel you need to write up a long list of rules at the get go, don’t. Submission is a learning process and handing someone a book and saying memorize it by tomorrow just isn’t going to happen. For this reason, the rules and structure of the relationship should be in a different, living document.
I strongly suggest D/s contracts be drafted for each relationship. Using a default one is nice to start, but you will encounter areas that you want to customize for the relationship each time you sign the contract. Use other people’s contracts as an example, but just like your relationship; it’s different so only use it for inspiration.
Are they legally binding?
D/s relationship contracts are not legally binding. They have no validity in court and you can not use them for disputes after a relationship ends. Contracts of this nature are more about the spiritual connection, the emotional and physical commitment established by the people signing it. They are morally binding. This makes it very special to the people involved.
Why should I consider the use of a contract?
You should consider the use of a contract if you are in a temporary situation and are taking a collar for a short duration. This provides an element of dedication to the experience you wish to enjoy and also lays down a foundation for how the term will play out.
Contracts also give a sense of importance to the relationship. You may feel a stronger need to work hard at problems as they arise because you have a contract. You may also feel more committed to achieving everything laid out so that your contract will be renewed.
How do I draft a contract?
Since D/s contracts are not legally binding they can take on any form that you wish them to. They can be laid out like a business contract or they can be hand-written forms that are signed. It depends on what kind of relationship you are looking for on what kind will work best for you.
Start out by making a list of all the things you think are important to have in the contract. Then go through the list and decide which ones belong in the rules list instead. Rules that could potentially evolve or diminish are good for the rules list, but not for the contract.
Then have your partner look at your list and work together to add or subtract items as necessary. Once you have an agreed list, write it up in full sentences. Decide on how long the contract should remain in effect and how a renewal is to take place; whether that be an amendment to this contract or a new drafted contract. Add a declaration at the top. Something like the following is basic and works in any situation.
We, the undersigned, declare to abide by the following items below with full commitment and awareness of our role in these items during the term this contract is in effect from [start date] to [end date].
Then make a space so that you can sign and date it. Then actually sign and date it.
What do I do if my partner breaks the contract?
How did you decide to handle violations in the contract? If you didn’t define how things were going to be resolved then it’s dependent upon you to decide what to do. The contract should have a stipulation about what to do with a violation of the contract. This can be from a re-evaluation up to a termination of the contract. It’s completely up to you. Since it’s not legally binding, the people involved are the only ones responsible for carrying this out.
Where can I find examples of a D/s contract?
If you are interested in seeing what other people have come up with for their D/s contracts, you can usually find some interesting variations. Here’s a few that I came up with while looking for research materials.
Am I Submissive?

So, you want me to tell you how you can tell if you are submissive or not? Asking someone else if you are submissive is like asking a blind man what color your dress is. Is there some magical online quiz that can say whether you are submissive or slave? Unfortunately no and I don’t think I’d listen to the results of one if it existed either. Submission isn’t something you can find in a self-help book or a therapist. Submission is a calling.
No, not the same kind of calling that religion speaks about; but similar. Some people find submission to be a natural way to live; something that comes to them easily and simply. To be a natural submissive means you have something innate and inherent in them that disposes them to submission. Others have to learn about submission step by step. I’ve written about my own experiences with learning submission in the post Submission by Choice. When you feel inside that you are happiest when submitting, that’s when you know you’re submissive. There is no secret to it.
Hearing your inner voice tends to be the hardest thing. You’ve probably come to this post because either someone said you are submissive and you want to know more or you’ve heard that inner voice and you are curious about what it means. Hopefully you will leave here with some understanding of submission and how you know if you are submissive or not.
It will take soul searching, no doubt about that. Trust me when I say that you can not become submissive if you do not have the basic inclination to serve and the emotional pleasure of being available to serve. Once you have that, you are well on your way to knowing you are submissive.
Let’s take a look at the following four spaces to help you figure out if you are submissive. Apply them however they will work for your own personal situation.
Knowing you are submissive will have a mental aspect to it. When you think of serving others does it put you in a peaceful position? If it feels like the logical thing to do then it probably is. When I found that I was happy being submissive I stopped fighting myself and accepted being happy.
You may also have a spiritual connection to submission. I’ve often described my connectedness to my Dominant as being in prayer. I feel a higher power sort of connection when I please him. You may have an overall sense of bliss or complete happiness thinking about or participating in service.
Connecting to submissive can have an emotional response as well. You may cry uncontrollably, or smile so hard and so often that your cheeks hurt. There is a clear sign that you are submissive when you can look upon being of service to someone else and your heart aches with need. Your emotional response is usually the strongest response to submissive stimulus that you will be able to experience.
Lastly when you are submissive you will develop a physical response to Dominance exerted at or near you. For many this is sexual excitement but it could also be a need to physically get up and do something to bring your closer to that Dominance. I’ve had moments that only felt perfect when I listened to the primal urge to kneel or kiss his hand or do something to serve him.
Feeling all of these things at one time or another usually means you have a submissive mindset. It may not happen all the time, but the moments that do you should try to feed it. Develop a service you can provide someone else, volunteer in your community and certainly, if you can explore a relationship with Dominance and submission at its core. You may find the calling you were hearing was one thing or another… or all of the above. Only you can know if submission is the right direction for you.

When Protocol Becomes Boring
October 21, 2009 by lunaKM
Protocol. It can be a scary word if you are new to submission. In a relationship, it is likely that you will have some protocol established to control your behavior. So, what is protocol? Simply defined, protocol is the set of special rules that you follow for defined situations that remind you of your place in the relationship. Every relationship is different and will have a different level of protocol. One of my first protocol rules was to call my Dominant ‘Master’ when in private and lifestyle event situations. It was a simple change in my normal behavior and a reminder of my place in the relationship.
As the protocols developed I was so excited to finally be doing what I had dreamed about and read in so many BDSM fiction books. I was living with rules and protocol and my mindset thrived. I felt so good about my place in the relationship and the happiness that Master displayed at my success. The pleasure I felt wasn’t just sexual it was like a part of my soul was finally being satisfied.
It didn’t last. After a few months I started to feel less happy about my protocol. It felt less like bliss and more like a chore. I had lost the attachment to WHY the protocol was in place to begin with; the reminder of my place in the relationship. The honeymoon period was over. Things got really rocky in our relationship because the effort involved in doing the protocol got more and more difficult for me, and the stress he experienced was just as bad.
What happened?
I lost focus for why the rules and protocols existed in the first place. I stopped feeling my submission when I obeyed and began rebelling with what I had gotten so used to doing for joy. I started looking to those fiction stories I’ve read for some sort of answer to my loss in vision. Why couldn’t I make the fantasy my reality? I was very stuck with that thought.
So what did I do?
Talk about it: I first approached my Dominant and explained to him how I was feeling and expressed that I didn’t like what had happened to me and us. We have a very open communication stream and it didn’t come as a surprise to him that this conversation was occurring. We talked about how long I had been feeling off task and also some ideas of what I could do to get back on track. It wasn’t an easy conversation as the fault, which is hard for me to take, was all mine.
The fantasy was just that; fantasy. I had to find my own reality in the protocols. I had to seek the happiness I once had and hang on to it. I started reviewing my rules on a daily basis. I developed a meditation routine to do to keep my submission blossoming. I learned how to self-correct my behavior before it became noticeable.
Most importantly, I made it a priority to create my own reality; one that would work better than trying to live a fantasy. It’s a constant work in progress and I still have my bad and good days. I know it will get better. One day I will be living as I’ve dreamed and the peace that I strive for everyday will find me.

lunaKM> So, first I’d like to get some impression about how new you are to submission. Could you please tell me how long you have been exploring submission and if you are in a relationship right now?
lunaKM> hello aquamuse
aquamuse> Hello, I’m new of course.
eagerslut> I am in a relationship and just recently discovered I am submissive and asked my master to teach me. Previously he had other subs
selene1123> i am currently in a 24/7 m/s relationship…have been exploring submission for about 6 months
aquamuse> I am in my first positive and healthy D/s relationship now with a man who is just discovering how much he likes it when I do what he asks.
aquamuse> about 6 months.
eagerslut> We always have had a sexual d/s relationship but 2 wks ago i discovered I wanted a 24/7
pleasure> i am in a 24/7 D/s relationship for over 6 years now…..i am 53 and in the lifestyle 6 1/2 years
bc26_2> i have only been doing this since march of this year and i am in a D/s relationship for that same amount of time
lunaKM> I’ve been living 24/7 for 5 years, just so you know ;)
pleasure> smiles
eagerslut> :O:
lunaKM> Ok, so we have a range of experience levels. thank you so much for sharing with me.
pleasure> it’s an ever evolving lifestyle and growth, no matter how long one has been in it
eagerslut> That is what I believe
lunaKM> Now, what do you think service is to you? No answer is wrong.
selene1123> To me, service is anything i physically do for Master’s purpose or enjoyment
aquamuse> I’m going to venture here and say service is being totally available, open and willing to comply. This assumes my basic needs are taken care of and put to the side for the time being.
eagerslut> Doing something for someone that would make them happy, even if you don’t feel like doing it. Giving your heart and soul to please that person
pleasure> nick/pleasure…….service/submission..is all the same to me…what ever makes my Sir life easier, happier…and i might add that i am actually more a slave
lunaKM> I’ve always believed that service is a part of my submission and what I give to my Master on a daily basis. Service is, to me, the activities that help the house run, our life be enjoyable and the basic needs met.
pleasure> yes exactly luna
eagerslut> That is very true
lunaKM> But I had someone explain to me yesterday on my recent post that they believe service is separate from submission
lunaKM> and I really like that explanation she gave too.
bc26_2> i agree with service being anything that makes the house run and enjoyable…even when my Mistress is not here
selene1123> i see service as the physical representation of my emotion submission
selene1123> *emotional
aquamuse> I like that selene1123
lunaKM> I’m going to quote it here… CarrieAnn said: To me, service and submission are different. Service is something I do because I’m required to or even want to but doesn’t necessarily require that I submit to anything or anyone. I can not have a submissive bone in my body and still serve. Submission is more direct; surrender to his will, submission to his dominance. The two often merge but are not always one and the same.
eagerslut> I like that too
bc26_2> oh i like that too
pleasure> yes i like that
eagerslut> I can see that point
lunaKM> So as you can see for some of us they are the same thing, but for others they are separate
lunaKM> Perhaps that is why I see people identify as service submissives?
eagerslut> As is everything in life we are all different and we interpret things differently, from our own background
eagerslut> I like that term
bc26_2> i feel that i am in service to many — myself, my Mistress, my daughter at some level…but i submit to only my Mistress
lunaKM> If we can agree that service is likely to be activities and not emotional in nature then perhaps we can come up with a list of things that are service?
aquamuse> I can agree with the definition.
eagerslut> I am a nurse so I feel I service others on a daily basis but I submit to my MAster .
bc26_2> i agree
lunaKM> alright so is my daily coffee preparation for my Master service or submission?
lunaKM> How about the daily chores?
pleasure> i am a nurse too,as like eager, i only submit to my Sir
eagerslut> C
selene1123> i would consider daily tasks or chores service
aquamuse> by definiton – these are examples of serice.
eagerslut> keeping the house clean
selene1123> but why you do it and how you do it is an aspect of submission
eagerslut> making sure my Masters children are taken care of
pleasure> laundry, making the bed..keeping the house clean is all service…
* lunaKM nods
lunaKM> Is sex a form of service?
eagerslut> BAking.massages,listening
aquamuse> baby making?
pleasure> my Sir has set in rules for a clean house
pleasure> yes i believe that would be a service aqua
selene1123> sex to me is a form of service
pleasure> i agree selene
eagerslut> Yes I think sex is a form of service, but I love it so much it definitely isn’t a chore
pleasure> no chore here either lol
aquamuse> hehe
lunaKM> Are all things service related as chores though?
pleasure> service doesn’t have to be something enjoyed
lunaKM> I’d think that there are some things you do that you enjoy just as much as sex as service.
aquamuse> I have things like workouts and keeping a calendar updated – are these service by our definition?
pleasure> no i don’t think all things service related are chores
eagerslut> I hate to cook but I do it because my Master loves it when I do. He generally does most of the cooking but I know he is very pleased when I do
lunaKM> I believe so aqua
selene1123> service itself is enjoyable to me…even if the act i am performing may not be
lunaKM> For me that’s hard to get in touch with selene1123. I’m quite expressive in my face and even if I try not to show my displeasure at a task he tends to figure it out.
bc26_2> i agree with you selene
pleasure> yes but you are still serving luna
aquamuse> me too selene1123
lunaKM> heh, I hear that a lot from him also :P
eagerslut> I do also
lunaKM> Next thought…. do all submissives serve and do all that serve submit?
pleasure> no
eagerslut> No
aquamuse> no
bc26_2> no
lunaKM> In what way can we describe the separation?
pleasure> it’s clearly upon each individual and the circumstances of the relationship
eagerslut> I think they are interchangable
pleasure> i don’t think there is line to divide the two….they do intertwine at times for many of us
selene1123> some may serve out of necessity or arrangement (like a stay-at-home mother or father) but that doesn’t mean they are submitting
pleasure> very true
eagerslut> Yes I agree
pleasure> to submit for me is doing something i detest….and yet serving
pleasure> does that make sense ?
lunaKM> Why do you think service is held in such a high place when Dominants talk about what they would like in a partner?
lunaKM> It does pleasure.
eagerslut> I think serving is a task you can do for anyone and submission is giving your being over to your Master.
eagerslut> To establish routines
pleasure> first of all….Dominates…are predominately Male….and have different ideas and thoughts as to what serving is…it’s what and how They define it
aquamuse> I know my Lover simply enjoys the idea that I obey him in simple requests. I think the power of that has suprised him.
eagerslut> To esatblish who is in control
selene1123> i agree with eagerslut – to emphasize who has the reins in the relationship
aquamuse> I agree too with eagerslut
lunaKM> I think that since service is what they can see immediately as a result of their dominance that they tend to place that a bit higher in importance
lunaKM> submission may not be immediate, but you can serve
eagerslut> Yes how true
pleasure> yes
aquamuse> that idea works for me luna.
selene1123> i can see that
pleasure> there are those that identify as bottoms..they serve..but don’t submit
lunaKM> So is the desire to serve natural or something learned?
eagerslut> Both
aquamuse> for me it seems to be natural.
pleasure> one can only answer for themselves….for me it natural…and yet i feel it can be learned
eagerslut> Some come by it naturally but anyone can learn to serve if they desire
lunaKM> it’s completely learned for me. and it’s not coming easy, that’s for sure
bc26_2> it depends – it is natural for me
aquamuse> I read your bio today.
lunaKM> which one aquamuse?
selene1123> yes, it depends on the person…i’ve always felt the need to serve, though i never really had an outlet before Master
eagerslut> I am a mixture. I have some inherent ability to serve but I can be very selfish at times
aquamuse> Luna.
lunaKM> Oh I meant which site did you read it on
eagerslut> I agree with selene
pleasure> i am a nurse..to serve is natural….
aquamuse> Yours Luna, you mentioned that the whole submissive thing was contrary to your persona? I hope I got that right?
lunaKM> yeah, I’ve had to do some rewiring. It goes opposite to how I was raised.
lunaKM> I get the greatest thrill though when I do something in full submission mode though.
aquamuse> on the Submissive Guide
lunaKM> Which is probably why I’ve stuck with it.
eagerslut> i always thought taht being liberated and independent I couldn’t be submissive but I have found that since I have given myself over to it I am more liberated
lunaKM> There were a good 6 months I considered going Domme. ;)
pleasure> i lived in a marriage of 23 yrs, and didn’t realize till after my divorce that he was controlling..not Dominate ..there is a difference..and to the way one submits to each
bc26_2> can you describe what you mean by full submission mode
aquamuse> * smiles*
pleasure> you are free now to be who you really are inside
eagerslut> Yes controlling is different My first husband was a controller
selene1123> i agree eagerslut…Master likes to make fun of the fact that i am a feminist submissive
lunaKM> full submission mode for me is when I’m given a task and as I’m performing it, no matter what that is, I feel a peace, like all the pieces fit just right, a perfection at my choices in life.
lunaKM> I’d like to attain that as permanently as possible, but right now it’s just fits and starts.
eagerslut> You explained that beautifully
eagerslut> I will strive for that
bc26_2> nice
lunaKM> I get like a buzzing in my head almost when I get there, and my heart swells in my chest. It’s grand.
aquamuse> I wan’t that too.
pleasure> good way to explain it luna……for myself, luna, i call that “focus”
lunaKM> yeah, it is a focus, sure!
selene1123> to me, it’s a moment of perfect connection with Master
pleasure> smiles
eagerslut> :)
lunaKM> Do any of you provide any unique service to your Dominant?
eagerslut> I remodeled his home,laid tile
pleasure> well….grins ..everything from toweling Him dry after a shower..to tying of His shoes
bc26_2> wow – you go
eagerslut> Had to go to Home depot to learn that
pleasure> Dom Depot lol
eagerslut> ;)
lunaKM> Master loans me out to the BDSM communities around us when calls for volunteers are needed for events. I’ve folded pamphlets to checking people in at the door and serving as hostess.
lunaKM> He’s not as … outgoing as I am… so he says I go in his place :P
selene1123> i act as His personal assistant…He hates writing, remembering appts, anything like that so i kinda “manage” things for Him
lunaKM> I am also Master’s chauffeur. He never drives
eagerslut> I get him out of the house to exercise he hates to get going but enjoys it once he does
eagerslut> Mine hates to drive also
* lunaKM chuckles I wish I could do that for my Owner. He just says watching me is enough workout.
pleasure> we mentor others in the lifestyle..and i have given classes as other Doms request Their subs/slaves need training in areas of service that the Dom is not able to do
pleasure> (at)
lunaKM> I suppose Submissive Guide is a service I provide too
pleasure> oh yes luna !! smiles
eagerslut> Yes it helps me
pleasure> a service to all that reads it
aquamuse> Good service!
selene1123> very informative for the new slave!
bc26_2> agreed
pleasure> being in the lifestyle for over 6 years now, but i am still a child learning my way

pleasure> i shave daily, sometimes twice if we are having company, for a teaching session for others ….shaving is a daily service for many subs/slaves
selene1123> i wear dresses and heels all the tim, so He likes me to wear jeans and sneakers
pleasure> your behavior…just as appearance reflects service….and it reflects back to Your Dom/Master
eagerslut> Yes my Master has already informed me of that. To speak succinctly when asked a question and to think before I speak
pleasure> yes and in a quiet tone…..
pleasure> in geisha training, words are not needed
pleasure> it’s your body that speaks for you
pleasure> the way you move….kneeling down to tie His shoe, He knows i have arthritis in both knees..that is service though painful for me
eagerslut> true
lunaKM> Well ladies that is all I have for tonight. I can stay for another half hour to chat so I’m going to open the floor for free chat if anyone would like to stay.
eagerslut> I’m going to have to get a geisha outfit now
bc26_2> thank you very much for the chat luna
eagerslut> That you for your insight luna
aquamuse> Thank you luna.

Living as an Emotionally Healthy Submissive
October 14, 2009 by lunaKM
Being an emotionally healthy person is a goal that all of us have but a smaller margin actually accomplish. With the constant stress of commitments and modern day obligations our emotions face the brunt of it. The goal of a submissive is to seek that balance in emotional states so that our service appears stress-free and sincere; even if we have a lot going on in the background. Living as an emotionally healthy submissive takes knowing what is considered healthy to begin with. Applying the following concepts to your own life can help you bring balance to your mental state.
- A healthy submissive nurtures, maintains and develops life-affirming relationships. Rarely are self-destructive relationships sought or sustained. This also includes the the open friendships the submissive has.
- A healthy submissive is capable of intense joy and happiness in a sustained relationship. The feelings expressed by a submissive with a balanced emotional state are full and impressive.
- A healthy submissive is a giver. Even if it means offering their last bit of change, a submissive is willing to sacrifice to bring comfort and happiness to others. Often a submissive needs to learn self-control as to not give over more than they are capable of.
- A healthy submissive is sensitive to the emotional needs of others. Compassion and sympathy are honest emotions that a submissive can get in touch with really easily to comfort others.
- A healthy submissive is accepting of herself and does not have cultural hang ups over her body or appearance. She is comfortable in her skin and is not easily impacted by social media suggestions.
This is just a beginning for what concepts can guide your life in an emotionally healthy way. Seeking balance is what everyone desires. How many times have you heard or said that everything seems out of balance? Bringing peace to your emotional well being is important to living as a happy and healthy submissive.
It’s not as easy as it sounds. I know, I’ve tried. I’m constantly trying to bring peace to myself. “Serenity Now!” The drama of being online a lot, the turmoil of a one income household, loving your best friend forever and knowing that he’s going to beat you tonight because it’s fun. Friendships come and go like the seasons in the garden of life and while you may miss the more vibrant ones, each has touched you in some profound way. Welcoming the joy of past memories into your thoughts can help bring peace.
Interacting with others is also every healthy for the submissive soul. It could be volunteering at an assisted living facility or watching the neighbor’s kids while they go out for a movie. Being there for people replenishes the submissive soul. I’ve even found it welcoming to people watch at the mall. Seeing other people struggle with life can put yours into perspective.
I’ve always envisioned my ideal life as being the peace bringer to my relationship. Someone that can see the stress and dissipate it effortlessly. Trying to achieve that goal helps me lead an emotionally healthier life.
What do you do that keeps you healthy?

Review: How To Get the Spanking You Want
My first ebook up for review is “How To Get The Spanking You Want: The Complete Guide to Asking For it, Getting it, and Making it Better” by Vivian of The Disciplined Feminist. I have an excerpt on this site if you’d like to read it.
The author has over 23 years of spanking experience and over a decade of scholarly and academic research on the subject. She is even well published.
The book is broken up into 4 chapters with a pretty good flow and cohesive train of thought. It’s developed for the person that would like to enter a spanking relationship with their partner but don’t know how to go about doing it. Written in a conversational tone will really help you explore the topic in your head as you read along. The author stays pretty general about what kind of spanking relationship, but does mention domestic discipline and play spanking so I think it could help you no matter what type of spanking your are looking for. It’s an excellent first step for the hesitant and hopeful spankee.
The first chapter will help you figure out what type of spanking you are looking for, and analyze your fantasies to understand what you expect from a spanking, but she also explains that your real life spankings probably won’t look anything like your fantasies. After all, you control the fantasy and the spanker always knows exactly what to do, right?
The second chapter is set up to help you ask your partner to spank you. While I do have some issues with the way the author says you should go about asking, there is some sound advice on your partners response; whatever that may be. Vivian says that you should use your feminine seductive arts to ply your partner into seeing you as submissive and demure; dressing and acting the part before and during the discussion where you ask your partner to be your spanking partner. In a way, it comes off as she is saying you should manipulate the situation to get what you want by using your feminine mystique and then being direct about what you want because that’s what guys like.
Now, I don’t have experience with asking a partner to spank me that wasn’t already interested, but to me this sounds a little backward. Essentially I see this as luring the man into your ‘trap’ and then confronting them with some huge secret and expecting them to respond positively about it. I don’t know about you, but if I followed her directions specifically, I’d have a confused man on my hands AND probably no hope of a spanking partner.
Really, my advice would be to definitely set a date to have this revealing conversation, but be honest and open about it when the time comes. There is no need to try to show your man that you are submissive and pliant and your ass is ripe for spanking as she suggests. But, that’s just me.
The rest of the book helps you prepare and receive your first spanking. It does a wonderful job going through the possible reactions you can have the first spanking you get, as well as the triggers you could awaken and how to deal with them. I love how she makes sure you understand that unlike your fantasy spankings, these hurt. It’s something that a lot of people just don’t realize till it’s happening and then you react poorly.
I’d highly recommend this book just for the last 2 chapters alone. You can definitely get something out of this book even if you are already in a spanking relationship. She also has a chapter on how to get more from your spanking experience and is worth reading even if you’ve been exploring spanking for years. I loved it.
Overall, I think it’s a decent book for someone who needs a way to share their spanking secret with their partner in hopes of finding a spanking partner in them. If you would like help talking to your partner about your spanking interests, get this book.

Strengths and Misconceptions of Kajira
September 16, 2009 by Guest Author
This is another guest post by dina of kajiradreams. She continues her thoughts on Gor and the life of a kajira. You can also read her thoughts on what it’s like to be an owned kajira.
The strengths of a kajira and the misconceptions of what a kajira is and does.
And what strengths better a kajira in being her Master’s absolute and total property….
I want to make one statement before I write what was set of me.
Gor, Gorean philosophy, Gorean lifestyle is exactly that. A lifestyle that is chose by those that have a particular set of intrinsic ideals. I have no time for role-players or wannabes. it is not something that you can ‘act’. It is not a ‘role’ you can play. It has to be lived, from the heart. Also, Gor is a fictional planet within a series of fantasy novels written by John Lange under the pen name John Norman. Gorean lifestyle can be lived here on Earth, but with adaptations, compromises and understanding. Gor of the books is fiction. The underlying principles and values are real.
I feel I should start with the misconceptions surrounding a kajira, as I know so many people in my life that would look with horror and complete incomprehension of that word (that is is they knew what it meant). To outside observers Gorean philosophy appears to subjugate women, treating them as mere objects, owned, ordered about, used as mere sex objects. It also appears at first glance to be all about sex, about sex mad dumb blondes with no brains or ability to exercise their own independence or free will… with no brains to know what they want, reliant on another person. women who have no mind of their own, no thoughts or ideas. Men who want to just use females, objectify them, dehumanise them… All in all, weak minded, easily controlled people who get a kick out of being treat like a piece of meat.
Sorry to disappoint you all agreeing with that statement, but it isn’t.
The Gorean lifestyle actually allows women to be women and men to be Men. I am a woman, quite categorically female and I am a completely different creature of the human species type to Men, I am softer in nature, more emotional, curvier and more able to love unconditionally. Gor allows me to be true to my nature and to myself.
Ultimately Gor comes down to the need for control though. The need of one person to be controlled and another to take control. Gor is about finding yourself in fulfilling that need.
So what are the strengths of a kajira?
For me a kajira is a woman who is confident in her femininity, strong in her commitment and strong in spirit. As kajira I offered myself to my Master freely, of my own free will and in that I chose to give my own will into his care. I am obedient, not because I have to, but because I choose to be. I know I can be forced into obedience by my Master, but that would not be pleasing. My first priority is to be pleasing to my Master and within that I choose to willingly do whatever he asks in order to meet his desires. In doing so I gain pleasure. A kajira is expected to give herself over entirely to her Master, heart, mind, body and spirit and under his guidance learn what is expected of her. I find as I learn more and more what is expected of me, I give more and more of myself. It is without doubt a difficult process and fears surface each time a limit is pushed or a change is realised, but it is a very worthwhile journey and not everything is painful. A Master does not walk this path out of cruelty or a desire to inflict pain, or a desire to have a kajira who will blindly do his bidding… I mean, how many people really want to spend time with a mindless robot? I don’t walk this path as kajira out of fear either, but because I want to. I want to please my Master, in every and any way I can. I want to meet his expectations of me, I want him to be proud of who and what I am, and what I freely give to him out of love and trust and submission. I need to remember, internalize that thought and trust that what my Master demands of me is for my own good.
It has been said that a kajira has no responsibilities or thoughts of her own, that the master holds all the responsibilities. All I can say to that is get real! have you ever actually thought about what it really means to be pleasing to a Master at all times? I am by no means expert, but even I know It certainly is not easy and neither is it meant to be. I find my master makes me look into myself, recognize and accept my beauty, speak my ideas, thoughts, dreams, fantasies and aspirations and be loved just for being myself. It is a hard thing to do.. to accept yourself and realize that you are loved just for being that person, the dark side of your nature just as much as the light. It takes an inordinate amount of strength, but in doing so I see that no matter what, my love for him is returned 10 fold and I am forced to feel it; I feel my life is safe from harm, that my Master protects me and shields me from all that is wrong in the world, whether that be other peoples actions, intent or malice. This strong, dominant, honourable man who consciously and purposefully demands every intimate feeling and thought I have. The desire and need that creates within me is overwhelming, the need to turn over my most basic human rights and trust totally and completely in one Man and his decisions. In a previous post I made reference to IE. IE for those that do not know, stands for Internal Enslavement. If you want to know what that is, look it up. I am not going to explain it here.
The strengths of a kajira for me is to allow this to happen. To have the strength to give that level of control over to another, to trust that they will act accordingly in the best interests of both themselves and their property. The strength to look into yourself and accept everything that is there, good and bad. The strength to change aspects of yourself in order to please another. The strength to place everything you have ever accepted as intrinsic to who you are, to one side as you learn. To relearn who you are and your place in life and in society. The strength to consciously choose a path whereby another will exercise the process of IE within you, knowing full well that as you walk that path you consciously and freely chose the end result, the result whereby you are psychologically bound to your Master in such a way you are mentally no longer able to exercise free will.
I am uncomfortable admitting it within myself, but I am a strong person. It keeps being pointed out to me and demonstrated quite clearly, but I feel uncomfortable accepting it when I find myself turning into everything I have previously detested. but I am strong. I will make those changes for my Master, not just because he demands it of me, but because I need to. It takes great strength to be completely 100% honest with another, especially when it is regarding things you are ashamed of or things that have upset you in the past, but I do it. I do so because I trust my Master to guide me and teach me how to please him better. One that sticks out quite sharply for me as a strength is the ability to trust in his judgment. I need to explain this one a bit better.
I am not a mindless robot. I am fiery, I am passionate, I am ruled by strong deep-seated emotions, I am intelligent, I have ideas, thoughts, concerns, issues, fantasies, wants and needs. It is instinctual when someone demands an action for me to question. sometimes there will be quite strong fears or concerns regarding this. Being kajira does not mean that I give my Master blind obedience; being kajira means that there is a time and a place for everything. That I must trust my Master to allow me to express those fears and concerns, that I must trust him to help me work through them so they are no longer barriers. That I must trust my Master to be acting in both his and my best interests. and that at the end of it all, regardless of how strongly opposed my own feelings may or may not be, I have the strength to say the words which are the right of every kajirae. “Yes Master”.
Another key strength for me is being able to let go, lose myself as I fall down this rabbit hole in the knowledge that my Master will always be there when I fail, and I will fail for I am human but he will be there allowing me to pick myself up, evaluate what went wrong and continue the journey, knowing that as I lose myself, I also find myself.
Two final points to make, I know I have rambled on here quite a bit and I have repeated myself a lot… I am not going to edit it though as I feel it will detract from showing my Master my thought process.
- I have an ever growing, innate need to be pleasing to my Master. I cannot switch that off. It eats inside me, demanding to be fed and to feed it means giving everything I am over to the hands of another; becoming bound to them in a way that there is no retreat, no escape route, no leniency. This is a very frightening concept and process, but just because it is ’scary’ does not mean I will back away from it. I always have enjoyed a good fight and I know within myself I have that strength to move through those fears and become everything I can be and more.
- “If you resent being polished how can you become a mirror”. Within the need to be pleasing to my Master, there is a further desire to be a reflection of him, his ideals, his standards, his integrity, honesty, confidence, strength of character, dedication and commitment. I desire for my Master to see within me what I see in him. He makes me so happy and content and complete. I want to give him everything he desires and more besides. I have to. I have to in order to be true to myself.
Done. Finito!

Tasks While Your Dominant is Away
September 14, 2009 by Guest Author

This guest post is by Alpine from Alpine Dreams.
A bit of a background story. My partner and I don’t live together. We are both Poly, have other relationships and numerous obligations. Staying connected and in a D/s mindframe can be difficult since he does go away sometimes and we can’t always be together on our usual bi-weekly days.
Since, we’ve decided to explore D/s in more depth, the time away can be more difficult. He has recently been giving me tasks to do when he is away. They have been ranging in tasks such as wearing my smart balls to work, putting clothespins on myself or locking myself up with handcuffs for a certain amount of time. We’ve only started doing these tasks in the past month and I’m sure there will be many more coming.
I think it’s an important way for us to stay connected and enforce that part of our relationship. It takes a bit of pre-planning on their part but the rewards are worth it. For every task, I am to document my time, my thoughts and take photos (if possible). He sends them to me with the date and time that I can open it.
It makes the time away easier and allows us to stay connected, it’s not close to the same thing but it helps when we are separated. I think it’s a great way for anyone in an D/s relationship to stay connected whether it’s a long distance relationship or even if your partner is away for a day.
Question
What do you think of giving or receiving fun, re-enforcing, controlling submissive tasks to do? I’m curious on what other people do when their partner is away and what rituals have you incorporate to help when you are apart.

Chat Night Transcript From BDSM and Sex Talk – 8/25/09
August 27, 2009 by lunaKM
Our first chat was a great success. Everyone gave permission to post the transcript and continue the conversation here. I loved every minute of interesting conversation. Read and enjoy!
<~luna[KM]> Alright, let’s get started. If you haven’t figured out, I’m luna. I started the site in January after I got tired of not finding what I wanted in all the sites online. I didn’t need the how to’s, but the whys.
<~luna[KM]> My goal with these chat nights is to share knowledge and information with each other to develop and grow in our submission.
<~luna[KM]> Tonight we are going to talk about BDSM and sex; if they are integral to our sexuality or if they can be separated as well as the whole perception in the community.
<~luna[KM]> In the reading for today we saw some people’s opinions as to whether sex and BDSM were separate things. What do you feel is the right way to explain it for yourself?
<hisowned1> it seemed to me that the gist of the articles–taken as a whole–was that sex is integral to a bdsm relationship….however, most bdsm relationships contain many other dimensions in addition to the sexual
<~luna[KM]> For me, in the beginning sex and BDSM were not the same, I was exploring and playing outside of a committed relationship, casually and did not want sex to be a part of it. I wanted the sensation and not the sexuality of it.
<~luna[KM]> Now that I’m in a relationship, I can not separate the two. BDSM is my sex and so much more.
<pet> i would have to agree with you luna
<hisowned1> most of our relationships probably involve the spiritual, psychological, emotional realms (should i include practical also?), in addition to sexual. well, as luna has pointed out in some of her articles, there may be differences between solely online relationships and in-person relationships…
<~luna[KM]> Laura Goodwin (the first essay) said that it was absurd to think that sex and BDSM are separate things, that the whole reason we invite BDSM into our lives is for the sex. Now, most of what she is referring is the tactile play aspects of BDSM, but do you agree?
<~luna[KM]> Is BDSM sexual?
<pet> to me its one of many things
<~luna[KM]> You bring up a good point hisowned1. Can you really have a sexual experience online and consider it a BDSM sexual act?
<~luna[KM]> The critics will say that no, you can’t have a BDSM sex act online – that it’s just masochistic fantasy and masturbation.
<hisowned1> i think pet has something to contribute here. pet, what are the ‘many things’ you refer to?
<hisowned1> …if i may ask…
<pet> would say for myself personally, the service, the emotional aspect is also important to me
<hisowned1> yes, me too
<~luna[KM]> pet, do you feel that there is too much focus on the sexuality of BDSM when people talk about BDSM?
<pet> sometimes yes
<pet> to me personally there is so much to our lifestyle
<~luna[KM]> There are a lot of levels to the lifestyle, I would like to focus tonight on the physical act of play and it’s association with sex.
<~luna[KM]> When I talk with others that may not be as familiar with BDSM as they can be, I always get the perception that they think BDSM is just kinky sex.
<~luna[KM]> But when we as lifestyle and active participants get together, I see more of a separation between play and sex
<asweetpea123> at this point in my relationship with my Master all aspects interact at different levels. Depending on the situation will depend on how deeply they react to the different aspects from sex to emotion etc
<~luna[KM]> So, can you play without sexual contact?
<pet> right, by what i have read, some definitely separate play and sex.
<~luna[KM]> sexual contact being genital touching
<radiogirl2009> oh of course
<radiogirl2009> I think so
<pet> i think so
<pet> also
<asweetpea123> yes
<radiogirl2009> my Master can play with me because he lives in my head
<radiogirl2009> my submission is in me
<~luna[KM]> Ok, so if the sensation receptors in your brain say that you are turned on, is it still sex or somehow it’s play?
<~luna[KM]> And if it is different, how do you discern the difference?
<asweetpea123> Wow
<asweetpea123> when you put it that way.
<hisowned1> how are we defining what ‘play’ means?
<radiogirl2009> okay, for me……… sex means a lot of different things
<radiogirl2009> and even though we have sex (phone sex, webcam sex) its in my mind
<~luna[KM]> play would be a set moment in time where two or more people are scening for the intent to experience sensations. This can be impact play, bondage or other forms of non-contact play.
<radiogirl2009> play……… is.. teasing
<asweetpea123> Ok my Master and I can have sex…touching in whatever way…but we can have no contact or “play” time from as far away as a phone or email where direction are given and yet I still feel the intensity as if it were physical. He still controls me even far away
<radiogirl2009> oh yes
<~luna[KM]> If BDSM is considered part of the sexual arena, why is it not included in more vanilla ideas of sex?
<asweetpea123> ?
<~luna[KM]> If we go on the assumption the BDSM and sex are not separate, why don’t we see more mainstream sexual encounters echo what we do?
<asweetpea123> People are afraid of stereotype…beating abuse dominance have a very negative opinion in the world
<asweetpea123> It is lack of knowledge that keep people from understanding the deep strong positive connection
<pet> yes it does im afraid. though i do have a friend who is very understanding and supportive.
<asweetpea123> media puts those words in prison/court/negative from an abusive husband/spouse and people stop looking farther…past the end of their nose
<~luna[KM]> So, can we say that BDSM is sensual more than sexual? Since we can have sex without BDSM and have discussed earlier that people can have BDSM without sex?
<~luna[KM]> It is unfortunate that the media has trouble accepting us, but the media is still working through homosexual acceptance, I fear that kink acceptance is further down the list.
<asweetpea123> BDSM is sensual for me. Very much so. to be so deeply controlled by someone who wants so desperately to control me…is sensual and loving..
<pet> i feel it is very sensual, because of the close connection between Dom and sub.
<asweetpea123> I would agree…media has come a long way but they have a long way to go
<~luna[KM]> how about you radiogirl2009? is what you’ve experienced more sensual or sexual?
<pet> yes they do.
<asweetpea123> The Master watches out for you…when he decides on something he has already through for you…he knows you better than you do…how is that for sensual..
* ~luna[KM] smiles. It’s a good analogy asweetpea123
<pet> yes Sir reads me like a book. sometimes i think he knows me better than i know myself sometimes
<radiogirl2009> well it greatly depends on my perception I guess
<radiogirl2009> Playing (not actually touching) for me is mainly mental…. and that is extremely sensual
<radiogirl2009> however, when he gets the flogger out…… its pure SEXUAL
<asweetpea123> again it is a mental sensation…even in flogging…anyone can hit you…but a Master who incites this is thinking of you when he does the flogging or allows the flogging to take place…that becomes sensual
<asweetpea123> It is no different than the circle of life or ebb and flow. one creates the other…without one the other is nto
<asweetpea123> not
<~luna[KM]> Great points all of them.
<~luna[KM]> You can mix sensual and sexual into BDSM, like a cocktail.
<hisowned1> asweetpea, that was beautifully put above—your post about the circle of life and ebb and flow. lovely. and true
<asweetpea123> Thank you hisowned1
<~luna[KM]> Now, I’ve been to a few parties and one party I’ve been too, doesn’t allow penetration of any kind. Others do, how does that change the way we could view sex and BDSM?
<asweetpea123> I feel that again if no penetration is allowed that does not matter. The Master controls the Sensual/Sexual intensity of the situation…
<~luna[KM]> For Master and myself, we prefer to keep our sex private, but we are okay sharing the SM play at parties.
<asweetpea123> your sexual satisfaction is directed by Master no surroundings
<~luna[KM]> It makes for a rather interesting argument when we say that BDSM and sex are the same thing and yet we can fracture it like that for play parties.
<asweetpea123> His Sexual Satisfaction is directed by him
<asweetpea123> LOL yes it does…but a duck is a duck
<pet> i would feel the same way, i would much prefer to keep our sex private

Reader’s Response to Addictions

I got quite a few wonderful responses in my email about addictions after I posted about my own vice. Some of you have allowed me to share your thoughts here for everyone to read. Thank you so much for sharing your stories. I know that someone will be touched by them; I know I have.
Anon1:
im a self-injurer. i told Sir, and that was the hardest thing i ever did. i didnt know what his reaction would be. once you tell someone this, you cannot take it back. but he was wonderful about it. of course i am forbidden to self-injure, (i cut myself). and i must contact him when i am triggered. at first it was very hard, because it was so easy just to cut when the stress built up and i needed a release. that is now not an option. i realize some people dont consider this an addiction perhaps, but to a certain extent i feel it is. Sir has been so supportive and caring. He never brow beat me about it. with Sir, i can accomplish anything, even getting past self-injuring which i never thought wouldve been possible. thank you so much for being so brave to tell you story and fight with this. you will win this fight.
Anon2:
I am an alcoholic. Master has made suggestions but has not given me any orders. I tried to hide it at first, but the more I went out the more I sent texts and emails. Then the guilt set in and I came clean. He pulled away and stopped calling me his doll. That hurt the most. When he does not call my name my heart breaks. Doll. BUT I DID NOT STOP. being and addict is an everyday struggle. but it is something he wants me to come to terms with on my own. He cares about me. I am trying to beat this and with his encouraging words I hope I can. I do not want to lose him.
Anon3:
i truly know what you are saying about food addiction. 7 years ago i stopped smoking after 36 years and a two pack addiction to cigarettes. and that was nothing compare to trying to control my food addiction. last year i did loose 46 pounds and i was thinking boy i am on my way. so this year i wanted to loose the last 50 pounds. well i am not sure that well happen. one day i do real good the next i do not do well. i have a Master we have been in our relationship almost a year now. it is not a 24/7 relationship. another word we do not live together and He does give me a lot of freedom due to my family and His. but He knows about me trying to loose this last 50 pounds. the year is more than half over and i have only lost 15 pounds. He always tells me He does not reward bad behavior. and that seems to work in all areas except my eating habit. someday when i get cared away with the eating i just say well i well start again tomorrow. but most time i don’t .i don’t know how to bring it up to my Master and i do not know what kind of help to ask for. i know i just don’t feel right about not letting Master in on how hard this is for me and i need help.
my mother would always say there are two ways to look at food. one is you eat to live. the second is you live to eat. well when your addiction is food you are the second.and that is me.
so as you can see i do not have an answer for you but i can tell you there are a lot of us out here in the same boat. all we want is to be healthy and happy.
i wish you luck on your journey and anyone else who is on this roll a coaster ride with food addiction.
If you have a story you want to tell, I’m here to listen. I keep all emails private unless permission is given to share them. That is ALWAYS the case.
