Before commenting, I looked up this word on dictionary dot reference dot com and discovered that humble comes from the Latin word “humilis”, which means lowly, insignificant, or on the ground.
“On the ground” was the phrase that struck me. For me, being humbled means that my Mistress has brought me back to ground level. I am reminded of my place at Her feet. I am relieved to be off of my pedestal. And as a devotee of the Goddess, I am a part of the earth–the ground from which all things spring. My submissive side enjoys being the foundation for my Mistress to build upon.
One of the character defects I struggle with most is intrusive or presumptuous. I think that I know what my Mistress wants or presume that I understand what She meant. She is very kind in explaining my errors, but it still stings when I realize how I sometimes “top from the bottom”. The remedy for this has been to ask for permission more often.
