I’m new to wax play. I enjoyed it during the scene, but the clean up was a bitch. The candle we used (specifically for kink play, off of etsy) was..sort of oily? It left a residue on my skin and had to basically be scrubbed off in the shower. I really didn’t like that part and would prefer something that hardens more, like a traditional wax, but I’m hesitant to just use any old candle, as you mention. Can you suggest any specific types?

It’s possible the wax you purchased from Etsy had massage oil added. You want low melting point waxes. Paraffin and soy are great for that. Avoid ones that have a lot of additives or unknown dyes as that can change the melting point drastically. KnyghtMare and I enjoy using the saints candles you can find in most grocery stores (the tall glass candles with images of saints on them) as they use paraffin wax. If you like a lot of wax play you can get one of those paraffin hand and foot baths and then ladle or paint the wax on! (Here’s one on Amazon: https://alexa.design/2pmGjUe)
