Excellent stuff! This is one of the reasons that I think a lot of what we talk about in BDSM and Poly is good stuff for ANY relationship where people want to have some real quality. Of course, like anything, not everyone practices it this way, but I loved that when I first showed up on the scene, the literature and the people I admired and respected all talked about communication, negotiation, respect, self knowledge, etc. It was a natural fit for me.

And this is really well written. :)

I can agree with everything said above because I am living it. I am in a vanilla relationship (it just sort of happened) and the communication has always been like pulling teeth. We don’t talk about important stuff and (most importantly) we have not had sex in a very very long time. What even more strange is hat it doesn’t seem to be a problem (on the surface). I don’t know what to say or even how to begin the conversation. I long for more than a vanilla relationship but thisi s what it is.

Thank you for this great article. I am relatively new to the lifestyle and communicating freely is not an easy task for me. Something I am working on, as I still have a certain fear of being judged or dismissed by my D. He ensures me that it is not the case and encourages me to communicate more, but I still find it hard.
