The Roundtable: The Secrets to a Smooth Bikini Shave

As I’ve done a few times already, I like to open this blog for readers to submit tips and opinions on a topic that I don’t know a lot about. This is your chance to teach me and the other readers of this blog. I encourage you to comment, subscribe to the comments and keep coming back to add more insights. This month we’ll talk about shaving, mostly shaving genitals.

I generally stick to shaving but I know there are a lot of tried and true ways to remove hair and secret tips to preventing razor burn, bumps or other things.

Share your hair removal tips!

  • How do you go about removing the hair down there?
  • Do you use any special creams, lotions or other tools?
  • What is your experience with salon hair removal?

I have always had trouble with razor bumps, ingrown hairs etc from shaving so this past February I decided to try waxing at my local dayspa. It was wonderful I purchased a product called Depileve that is used to prevent bumps, ingrown hairs and razor burn wheather you shave or wax. Waxing was very tolerable although slightly painful on the pubic mound but practically un-noticable on the labia and around the perinium. Waxing is well worth the expense but either way depileve is the product you need, it is applied with a cotton pad after waxing or shaving and then each day until hair grows back or everytime you shave if you shave daily.

I have often thought getting waxed might be nicebut dont know how expensive it is and strange as this may sound embarrassed to erm reveal myself to a total stranger like that…lol.

thank you! THANK YOU! for posting this topic! Razor burn drives me nuts and waxing I can give and take! I look forward to the posts! thanks again!

Being a redheaded male i’m plagued with very pale, light skin. (my Mistress defines my skin tone similar to peaches and cream) i’m VERY apt to razor burn, prickly heat and terrible rash problems during the summer months south of .. well .. below ones navel (as it were). Rather than the hit and miss frustrations of trying to scrape pubic hair with a razor – i use Surgi Cream (made by a company called American International Industries). At least for me it’s an easy product to use that doesn’t create negative effects. It works well on pubic hair, very sensitive skin and it’s MUCH easier to use on shaft and scrotum than working with a razor. Simply moisten area, wipe it wherever hair needs removing, relax about 6 or 7 minutes, wipe hair off with Kleenex or toilet tissues then pop into the shower.

Hmm, at least for me it’s a good product and does what it says. The only very small negative to also offer is it slightly tingle burns while waiting to remove tiny wisps of hair close to anus so, well .. it might be wise to not accidently leave on sensitive skin more than 7 minutes.

    Respectfully, arthur

I too am interested in seeing the responses to this- I don’t shave it off, but I do have hella razor burn and bumps on my inner thighs…ugh! I haven’t figured out what to do about it yet.

  6. pleasure says:

i have been shaving the entire “neither” region daily for over six years now. and have never had a razor burn, the unslightly shaving bumps or ingrown hairs.
my secret?…i use a cheap hair conditioner in place of using a shaving cream!! it works great and leaves the area smooth and soft.

  7. Raja says:

I use to get razor bumps, redness and burn after sweating or working out, after shaving. I use Bikini Zone everyday now and notice I don’t get anything now. I also use cheap hair conditioner instead of shaving gel too and use my disposable razor just once (twin blade, I heard one or twin blade razors less likely to cause burn than triple blades- ???). I have course dark hair and thick oily skin. I tried waxing, loved it, but I had unsightly stubble in like a week! Just my two cents.

    • Submissive_D says:

People disagree with me left and right, but I do prefer single blade razors. I just think they work better, I get a closer shave, and yes, less burn/bumps. I actually get mad when I can’t find the single blade cheapos and have to buy the twin blade ones.

  8. says:

I tried magic powder just last week. It’s sold near the African American men’s hair products. It’s a powder you mix with water and apply. Straight up it’s a depilatory just like Nair but it didn’t burn nearly as much. You have to keep it wet, as it doesn’t bind with the water well and dries often but I found a water bottle does great for keeping it moist.

It worked really well. I’m sure I’ll be using it again.

  9. solsine says:

Oh this is a very good topic indeed! i shave the whole “area” clean and try to keep it as smooth as possible.

i too have wanted to try professional waxing, but have concerns about: (1) cost, (2) how often it needs to be redone, (3) how awkward is that?!?

i find that frequency of shaving, combined with the right tools really works well. i agree that a better effect is achieved with a single-blade disposable razor (but you have to use a new one every day or two). Once daily shaving keeps things smooth enough that i rarely get bumps or breakouts. Occasionally i’ll “touch up” before bedtime, but i can’t do more than 1 full shave per day, or it’s too irritating on the skin. Instead of shaving gel, i use a very emollient body wash, “Eucerin Calming Body Wash”. (Not too fond of the scent, so i use something else for washing and this stuff exclusively for shaving. It also leaves arms and legs silky smooth!)

Would like to experiment more with depilatory creams or gels, but i’m just not sure if they work too well on heavy/coarse hair – i find they only work for me on fine/facial hair. So i’ll have to try some of the suggestions here, mebbe do an “area comparison test”? lol Daddy will be all, “what ARE you doin’ girl?” :p

  10. JB says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the people who suggested cheap conditioner! I still haven’t worked up to doing the whole thang but even bikini area usually gives me bumps. This is MUCH more better.
    Y’all rock!

  11. hels says:

After reading this article a few weeks ago, I decided i had to do something. The bumps were a nightmare & looked horrible.
I decided to use my epilator & the results were amazing. Natrually, it hurt like you would not believe, but has not been bad at all when i have done it since. I have also exfoliated every day (Clarins because its gentle).
Smooth and bump free…Daddy loves it!

  12. dragonfly says:

    LIke RAJA said,
I to use bikini zone it’s great when used with a new twin blade razor.
NO bumps or razor burn I am fair skined with dark hair and this is the only thing I have found that works for me. Have thought about letting my Master wax me, he’s voice that he would like to do this,so who knows maybe fun.

  13. venisgirl says:

i am extremely sensitive to fragrances – most products with “perfume” or “fragrance” in the ingredients give me a migraine. that leaves most of the bump-prevention products out of the question for me. fortunately, i found a solution i’d like to share with you all! it’s inexpensive, natural, and easy! go to your local health food store and pick up a thai crystal deodorant stone (or one of the “liquid rock” roll-on deodorants made with the same mineral). wet the stone and rub it on the just-shaved areas, then rinse. the stone will last FOREVER and it really does help prevent bumps. it is kind of tingly/burns just a little bit right when i put it on sometimes, but only for a few seconds.

  14. shyslut says:

If my hair has gotten long (sometimes I take breaks and sometimes certain areas grow faster) I use Nair. Now while I HATE the nair in the pink bottle. The gentle cucumber low odor Nair in the green bottle ROCKS. As for when it’s short and Im actively maintaining my shave I too use plain conditioner. My preferred blade is a triple or even quad blade. The less times I have to go over an area the better!! My favorite conditioner to use is the coconut oil kind. Smells good and is really good for the skin.

  15. lilcricket says:

wow Thanks You People for the tips and yes ya’all rock, i am in anew realtionhip and although shaving or not being shaved ahas not really come up yet, at least now i whats out there that i can use sounds like conditioner is the trick. at least price wise anyway. i am brand new to this site and devouring as much as i can.

  16. julia says:

Everybody here has great ideas – thanks! Hi all…

While watching an informative medical program from the UK called Embarresing Bodies… they tackled the issue of ingrown hair and shaving in the bikini area and one of the suggestion they had was to not wear tight clothing after a shave especially tights (pantyhose) or tight trousers etc.

I took this idea and slightly changed my routine based on ideas from the posts above and now I have my shaving showers before bed (being naked or wearing loose pj’s) means the freshly shaved and moisturised skin has a chance to breathe and so forth…

A friend of mine has sworn by permanent lazer hair removal but I think thats just for those who can afford it.

    best wishes

I shave with a razor once a week and then do a daily touch up with an electric razor called ” body bare” It is used by porn stars to stay soft. I put some baby powder on and then shave away,,works well and no problem with bumps. My GODDESS had trouble with bumps and I told her why bother shaving,,let it grow,,I can munch through the hair. YUM.

I am unfortunate enough to have extremely fast growing hair. I have to shave daily and preferably right before ‘stuff’ is about to go down. ;) I find that using unscented moisturizing soap and a 4-blade razor get me the closest shave without the bumps or irritation. I guess it really would all depend on the person’s skin. One method might work for some and have disastrous results for others. I am looking to try my hand at waxing, though. The only downside I can see to waxing, besides the cost of course, is that hair must be 1/4 inch long before it can be waxed. I don’t know if I would be willing to go without shaving long enough for the hair to get that long! eek!

Like Vivian, my hair grows at an overwhelmingly fast rate. I wax every other week, but need to shave in between as well. I, too, get razor burn, bumps, ingrown hairs, etc…. I use tend skin after I shave, it works well, but stings like a bitch. Waxing for me lasts only for about 4 days then I have to start shaving every other day.
I’m debating doing laser; I’ve done it on other body parts, some places were more successful than others.
